Pay-to-play Gran Turismo

If this news is accurate, Gran Turismo HD may actually be a step down from GT4. A translation of Famitsu by a member of the Beyond 3D forums suggests that GTHD will come in two editions, Classic and Premium. Premium is described as a "GT5 prologue" that will start with two new courses and 30 cars. That number can double - but only if you pay. The 20-player Classic edition will come with nothing at all, requiring players to spend 50 to 100 yen ($0.43-0.85 US) per car and 200 to 500 yen ($1.71-4.26) per course. With there being an optional 50-plus tracks and 750-plus cars, IGN estimates that a gamer could spend as much as $500 to $845 to acquire all the content. Can GT multiplayer possibly be worth a fraction of that price?
