Wii update disc in box?

People described as "long-standing online Nintendo leak sources" tell SPOnG that we may be getting update discs for our Wiis before we've even turned them on. An item Nintendo is referring to internally as the "Wii Start-Up Disc" may have a firmware update, which would be required for the shipping version of the console. It's suggested that Nintendo jumped the gun when it started production back in July. On a related note, SPOnG's sources say that beta testing has yet to begin on the Virtual Console or WiiConnect24. That will supposedly take place between September 18th and October 23rd. If accurate it would explain why no third-party Wii games will have online play until 2007.
