iMovie trademark upgrade


In brief: Apple has filed for an upgraded trademark for iMovie ahead of the company's special event expected to produce a widescreen video iPod and an iTunes movie service.... Apple's new 24-inch iMac features a screen resolution large enough to display 1080p or 1080i HDTV without downsampling, according to The HDTV Tuner.... Heunox and OmniPilot Software today announced Lasso Summit 2007 scheduled for March 2-4th, 2007 at the Riverside Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.... Pileated Pictures today announced that it recently wrapped production of a dozen animated episodes to support the launch of Trivial Pursuit DVD for Kids.

    imovie trademark

    Perhaps the new iMovie update will allow you to convert movies for the new video iPod easier. Apple might play up that feature as a separate part of the movie download intro. Home movies to go.....

    There is a bit of confusion in the fist comment. The trademark filing is related to Apple's exclusive right to use the work iMovie. Originally, it was just in the area of computers; now, it is expanded to other areas, as explained (in great detail) in the article.

    As for the iMovie (the application, although, the actual name is iMovie HD), if a new wide-screen video iPod is announced on Tuesday, it is certain that there will be an iMovie update that will add new iPods to the list of sharing formats. I doubt that it can make it any easier than it already is, though, since it is a one-step process (when your movie is ready, click 'Share', then 'iPod').

    name change

    Then it's most likely in relation to a renaming of the iTunes Music Store. Could we see two separate stores, like the iMovie Film Store, or something similar? It would be hard to imagine them keeping the iTunes name for the whole enterprise. iMedia or the like might be more inclusive...

    IMovieMaker

    I'd rather see them call the app and service for downloading video to be called iMovie. It was always too generic a title for me for an app about making movies. You don't make tunes with iTunes. You use GarageBand or something that inspires creativity. iMovieMaker makes more sense to me and tells switchers exactly what it does.
