Parallels for Mac Pro
Parallels on Tuesday said that it will soon be releasing a Mac Pro-compatible version of its Parallels Desktop application. Released earlier this summer, the Parallels Desktop virtualization solution allows users to run a variety of alternate operating systems--including Windows, Linux, Unix, etc. --from within a separate window in Mac OS X. The company's application provides a shared work environment with Mac OS X, in contrast to Apple's Bootcamp, which requires users to boot into one operating system--prevent the user from working with both simultaneously. The company said that the new Mac Pros "have a different CPU model, and work with a specifically optimized OS X kernel." Though the company claims it is not difficult to make Parallels compatible with either of these, it said it would take a bit of time.
The company has promised a compatible version very soon: "We should have a compatible build very soon.... When I say very soon, I mean very soon. Like within the next few days." Earlier this month, the company promised improved graphic peformance and other improvements to allow support for playing 3D-accelerated games and support for Microsoft Windows Vista.

God, how I hate these. MacNN claims you can easily turn them off, but I have to do this over and over. And no, I'm not deleting the cookie! Let's organize a boycott of MacNN for a day to get them to reconsider forcing this c*** down our throats! How about September 1st?

Anyone considering...

Anyone considering Parallels should be aware that they they will get absolutely no tech support. It's actually a very good, though immature, product, and is a great value for the price. However, if something goes wrong, a hard drive image becomes corrupt, a serial number is lost, etc., you will be totally on your own. Even attempting to contact the company through their corporate telephone number will not get you in touch with a live person or get a telephone call returned. I wish they would hire a product manager and staff a support department, because it is a great product that is going to have serious challenges as soon as someone else comes along with a competitive product that does provide support.
