Smallest DVD burner

Plextor has unveiled its PX-608CU, the world's smallest external DVD burner, measuring just 0.6-inches thick and weighting 8.8 ounces. The new writer is compact enough stow alongside a notebook without consuming much more space. The burner is powered entirely through the USB 2 interface, making it ideal for laptop owners on-the-go without access to power outlets. Plextor's PX-608CU drive can burn dual-layer DVDs, and boasts a maximum single-layer recording speed of 8X, according to Electronista. The new drive is slated for shipment in October, though pricing is still undetermined.

    USB powered

While theoretically a nice option, it sounds risky in practice. How long does it take to burn a DVD? 15 minutes? How much power does it consume? I can see people sitting on the airplane hoping the DVD finishes burning before their laptop goes to sleep for lack of power.

    not..

any laptop user sutupid enough to think an external burner wont drain the battery fast deserves it. :) Most people will bring a flight adapter with them,

And besides.. whats the alternative? A separate plane adapter for the burner?

    dude, its Plextor

Plextor uses the same mechanism in all its drive. It'll work even tho Plextor's site says it don't. Apple supplies the drivers, not Plextor.
