Folding@Home on PS3

Distributed computing projects have been around for several years, using personal computers worldwide to process data that would be too time-consuming for a single institution. Stanford University is running Folding@Home, a project devoted to simulating protein folding in cells - a concept that's initially boring until you learn how many killer diseases are linked to bad folds. Recently, it was announced that Stanford and Sony are working on a Folding@Home client for the PS3. Not only will the PS3 push the project into the petaflop processing range, it will be the first instance of @Home offering real-time visualization of the folding at an atomic level.
