Apple updates MacBook

Apple has issued updates for its MacBook line of notebook computers, Xsan, and Logic pro audio software. The MacBook SMC Firmware Update adjusts fan behavior in the new Intel-based MacBook. The company's Logic Pro 7.2.2 and Logic Express 7.2.2 updates improve compatibility with the Mac Pro, offering increased performance through full use of the Mac Pro Quad-core architecture and delivering optimized support for the built-in audio ports of that system. The Xsan Filesystem 1.4 for Mac OS X 10.4 improves reliability with fixes for using file system access control lists; labeling as well as initializing LUNs greater than 2TB in size; AFP and NFS performance when re-sharing Xsan volumes; handling file system quotas as well as notifications; and compatibility with Apple as well as third party applications.

Apple also said that the Xsan Filesystem 1.4 fixes an important security issue (CVE-2006-3506) in Mac OS X 10.4.7 client/server systems in which malicious users may be able to cause systems using Xsan to crash or execute arbitrary code. A security warning said that a buffer overflow may occur in the Xsan Filesystem driver when processing a path name, allowing a user with write
access to an Xsan volume to be able to trigger the overflow on systems directly attached to Xsan. This could lead to a system crash or arbitrary code execution with system privileges. According to the release notes, Apple has addresses the issue by performing additional validation of path names.

Apple's Xsan Admin 1.4 Update delivers overall improved reliability for remotely administering, configuring, and maintaining Xsan deployments. The update includes fixes for labeling and initializing Fibre Channel LUNs larger than 2TB in size; expanding storage pools and volumes; working with multiple Xsan metadata controllers in a heterogeneous environment; displaying progress messages while performing lengthy operations; preventing custom configuration changes from being overwritten during a save; and accurately reporting Fibre Channel multipathing errors.

The Xsan 1.4 Uninstaller removes Xsan from a Mac system, along with the Xsan Admin application and accompanying documentation files.

    Sigh...

Am I the only one that read the headline and thought they'd updated the MacBook (and perhaps MBP) w/ the Core 2 Duo?

    Wishful thinking on my part.

    Yep...

My initial thought was that as well. I think it could have been titled a little better to indicate it was the software that has been updated. Strangely, the MacBook link bring up a "Page Not Found" on Apple.com.
