Other World Computing (OWC) today announced a new 160GB 2.5-inch SATA drive upgrade and backup solution for dramatically improving storage capacity for the Intel MacBook and MacBookPro and providing advanced backup protection. The Upgrade and Backup Solution is introductory priced at $290 and features a new perpendicular technology-based 160GB 2.5-inch Seagate Momentus 5400.3 SATA hard drive mechanism, which debuted earlier this week along with EMC Retrospect Backup software, full installation video support, a 5-year mechanism warranty, and a 30-day DOA replacement warranty. Factory hard drives being replaced with the new OWC Upgrade Solution qualify for a trade-in cash rebate of up to $75. Or, factory drives can be paired with an OWC Mercury On-The-Go SATA enclosure for $90 to create a pocket-sized, impact resistant external storage solution. Additional OWC HD Upgrade Solutions for Intel Macs are available in 100GB, 7200RPM and 120GB, 5400RPM capacities starting at $150.
