WWDC: 64-bit Intel Macs and OS X?

updated 02:45 pm EDT, Thu August 3, 2006

WWDC 64-bit Macs

Just as the World Wide Developer Conference rumor mill is starting to reach a fever pitch, a seemingly authentic photo of one of the banners Apple will use at the annual developer conference has surfaced on the Internet today. The information found in the photo is far from complete, but it contains strong indications of what Steve Jobs will discuss in his keynote speech on Monday. One expected revelation is that OS X Leopard, the next version of Apple's operating system, will run 64-bit code natively - possibly without separate 32-bit and 64-bit versions, as Windows requires. Additionally, the banner suggests that the Mac Pro (the heavily-rumored Intel replacement for the Power Mac) may not be as dramatic redesign as many had once thought. Click the article title for the full photo.

    what's that green thing?

In between the 10.5 DVD and the hammer there is green blob, any ideas? The G5 case was (is) a pro case is there ever was one. Not surprised here it is the same although would like something between it and the miniMac.

    Those images

They look like the icons for the "Core" libraries:

But they are blue and orange right now. Maybe green is Core 3d or something?

    That green thing is...

Core video. Spullara, you were right: the icons are for the core libraries. However, if you look here

    http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/coreimage/

about halfway down the page, you'll see the green icon. Core video was introduced in Tiger.

Do you have the feeling that this "secret photo" is actually a trick by Steve Jobs to keep everyone guessing? Sort of like a fake Easter egg?

    Damn you, Steve, damn you!

    Video Nano

No one noticed that the iPod pictured is a nano, and has a video clip on it.

The image appears to be the one of Bono singing/shouting, which is often used in still photos of the 5G video iPod. You can tell it's a nano, and not a full iPod, by the way it's so tall and thin. There's also too much space between the scroll wheel and the screen to be a 5G iPod.

    Video nano...NOT!

It's showing an album cover, looks like the new Keane album that's been featured in a lot of iTunes ads.

Oooooh, maybe they are releasing a new version of Print Shop because there's a banner. JUST TEASING!

    But, it's just a banner...

    No new stuff.

You guys sound like a bunch of kids trying to guess their birthday present. There is nothing new on that banner. Just get over it. Just wait and see and then you will know for sure. It looks like we are living in a microwave generation 3 2 1 ping!!! Patience saved a lot of businesses making mistakes, so appreciate the secrecy policy of Apple and wait till it all is revealed.
