iTunes gets more content

Apple has added several more TV shows from both the Warner Brothers and CBS networks to its iTunes Music Store. Warner Bros. has added Friends Season 1 ($30); one tipster also reports spotting the pilot for their new TV series 'Aquaman', alongside Miami Vice Season I. Also new for Warner brothers is a new classics line including the first season of The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Babylon 5. The Best of Mad TV seasons 8, 9, and 10 are now also available on iTunes. CBS has added the Big Brother: All Stars ($30) series to iTunes including a new season pass for the both previous episodes and new episodes for the remainder of the season. Single episodes of all the series added today sell for the usual $1.99 in an iPod compatible resolution. These additions come only a few weeks after Apple announced iTunes crossing the 150 television show mark.

    Justice League

If iTMS gets any episodes of Justice League before they come out on DVD, I'll buy them. They better get on it, though: the next-to-last set comes out in October.

Also, this raises the question of whether Aquaman might get picked up after all.

    what about Stargate?

As a big sci-fi fan, I'd like to see Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis added.

NBC owns the Sci-Fi channel and iTunes already offers Battlestar Galactica, so why not the Stargate series?

    Aquaman and stargate

If iTMS gets any episodes of Justice League before they come out on DVD, I'll buy them. They better get on it, though: the next-to-last set comes out in October. Why? The DVDs offer a better picture, better media, and more options, and all for about the same price. To get the year sooner just doesn't seem worth the money to me.

Also, this raises the question of whether Aquaman might get picked up after all.

Putting on Aquaman shouldn't affect the show's status one way or the other. h***, if they sell a ton of them, they might pick it up and sell it directly on iTMS (why waste the TV time if no one's going to watch it). Of course, if no one's watching the show for free, I doubt people will be flocking to spend $$$ on it.

It has little to do with who owns the network as it is who produces the show. I believe NBC/Universal produces BG (which would also explain why it ends up on Universal's HD network), so its easier to get it on line then something owned by another company.

Personally I'd like to see more older shows available, those that you can't see anymore except with 20 minutes cut out for more commercials. And especially ones that aren't on DVD yet (and who knows if they'll ever be on DVD).

Why do I have to choose?

"Why? The DVDs offer a better picture, better media, and more options, and all for about the same price."

For this show (and precious few others), I'd buy both, so it doesn't matter how much better the DVDs are. Besides, the price remains to be seen.

I'm about to go out and get the Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain DVDs, and I think I'd rather have them in iTMS form. Just the stuff to kill time on shorter flights.
