Parallels coming to Apple Store

Parallels at Apple Store

Nova Development has announced plans to distribute Parallels Desktop for Mac across the United States, including the Apple Store. Parallels is virtualization software available for Mac OS X that was recently released for sale after an extended public beta test period. Featuring support for any version of Windows or Linux, Parallels believes they have an edge over Apple's Boot Camp which requires Microsoft Windows XP SP2 as well as a restart when users decide to switch from Windows to Mac OS X. Though Parallels doesn't currently support DirectX, the company has plans to support the technology in an upcoming release. Parallels will arrive at over one thousand retailers including the Apple Store later this month.

    Vista and VPC

will NOT happen. VIsta is a HUGE resource hog. The only way that will run on a mac is if it is powered with an intel chip, not PPC. Even quad core G5s have hard time emulating XP, Vista will just be that much harder. VPC is dead. MS knew what they were doing when they bought it from Connectix

    But

parallels has nothing to do with the PPC platform. It is only for the intel, so your dreams of using parallels to run Vista on a PPC mac are misguided.

    so....

So if this product is in Apple's stores, does this mean that it will compete with the rumoured similar product for the next OS X revision? Or do you supposed they will announce that the software will just come bundled with every new OS X install, new Macs etc. ?

    re: but

thats why i said a mac powered by intel. NOT ppc. the other poster said PPC and thats why i said VPC (since VPC is PPC software)

but i think the other poster was saying he wanted VPC to be able to run vista (which will never happen) my guess it would be like getting a 68k mac to run OS X through an emulator. just wont happen

    re: but

fastamx79 is correct, i was basically saying that paralells is the new king of the hill, but that for those of us with ppc macs, i was hoping that they would be one last revision of VPC. Sadly, I believe fastamx79 is right, most pc's will only be able to run it with the new gui features turned off, let alone a emulated pc. VPC is dead, Long live Parallels!
