CLC Free Workbench 3.0
CLC Bio has released CLC Free Workbench 3.0, allowing users to make a large number of bioinformatics analyses. The software combines smooth data management and graphical viewing with output options, and offers interactive restriction site analysts. Other bioinformatics analyses include creating and editing alignments, Phylogenetics, integrated GenBank searches, and advanced DNA to Protein translation. The latest iteration of the application updates all icons to support a more modern, platform-independent look, and allows users to start an analysis by dragging a sequence to the icon in the toolbox. CLC Free Workbench 3.0 is available for free, requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later, and works with Intel-based Macs.
Additional changes
The software allows analysis of multiple sequences in one single step to improve productivity. CLC Free Workbench improves restriction site analysis tools, and allows users to edit DNA, RNA, or protein sequences. Users can join two or more sequences or alignments into one, and the software wraps sequences to fit the screen by default when opened. Advanced alignment editing includes insertion of gaps, deletion of columns, and changing of residues. The history log is improved, offering a better overview of past work tasks performed on a given element.
CLC Free Workbench 3.0 adds a large number of tool tips, ensures that all analyses routines have an initial pre-defined setting of parameters, and positions specific information on sequences as well as graphs by pointing to or selecting a position.
Users can export DNA Strider as well as PIR data, import/export NEXUS data, and import sequences in Staden format.
