Audiocorder 4.8.0 released
Black Cat Systems has released Audiocorder 4.8.0, adding a Voice Timestamp feature that allows users to prepend a computer-generated spoken time and date to the beginning of a recording. Audiocorder allows Macs to act as sophisticated audio recorders, according to the company, functioning as a volume operated (VOX) audio recorder that both begins and ends recording when volume reaches specified levels. The application also allows users to set the trigger length for the start and stop values, which helps eliminate recording short bursts of sound or ending the recording process during a short pause. Audiocorder is programmable with a recording schedule, allowing users to specify when to start and stop recording similar to a VCR. Audiocorder 4.8.0 is priced at $20 (system requirements were unavailable).
Manual recording
Audiocorder features a button to stop recording to one file and begin recording to another, allowing the software to act as a manually operated recorder in addition to its automated functionality. The application also buffers incoming sound, allowing users to record events which have already occurred.
Storing songs
The application stores songs in AIFF format, and audio is sampled at 11, 22 or 44 kHz with a sample size of 8 or 16 bits in either monophonic or stereo. Files are named with the date as well as the time recording began, and files are recordable in WAVE format for automatic conversion to MP3 using iTunes.
Playback, phone recording
Audiocorder supports playback of AIFF, WAVE, and MP3 files. The application can also record telephone calls using the internal modem on many Mac models, providing the internal modem audio is routed to the sound input device.
