Internal Bluetooth upgrade
FastMac today began shipping a plug-and-play internal Bluetooth upgrade for select PowerMac G5, PowerMac G4 and iMac G4 systems. The upgrade adds Bluetooth wireless connectivity between desktop computers and the growing array of Bluetooth-enabled personal digital assistants, mobile phones, cameras, printers, headsets, keyboards, and mice. The Bluetooth module fits directly into the Mac's main logic board, attaching to the built-in Apple antenna. No drivers or software are required, and the upgrade is available for $26. FastMac's Bluetooth upgrade comes with a one-year warranty and 30-day money back guarantee.
The upgrade works with Power Mac G4 (FW 800), PowerMac G5, PowerMac G5 (from June 2004), PowerMac G5 (from late 2004), iMac G4 (17-inch Flat Panel, 1GHz model), and iMac G4 (with USB 2.0) systems.
"Unlike other upgrades that attach externally, cost more and tie up USB ports, this upgrade connects directly into the system's main logic board freeing port space while adding functionality," FastMac said.
The upgrade has an effective range up to 32 feet, and can transfer data at speeds up to 721 Kbps. The accessory is fully compatible with all versions of Mac OS X, and includes a video for installation as well as instructions in PDF format.
