Free Google Video player for Mac

Google has released another product for the Mac, allowing users to view both the free video and the previously-unavailable premium video content on a Mac. The free Google Video player allows users to watch videos downloaded from Google Video, view full-screen video, browse scenes within a video using thumbnails, skip to anywhere in the video (even if that portion hasn't downloaded yet), and resume video downloads automatically. It w The player requires a 1GHz or faster machine and a video card with at least 16MB of RAM. It runs on Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later as Universal Binary for native support on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs.

All the videos on Google's site play in a browser window. Why did they even release this? When I search from the app, the results come up in my browser ... and it's not like Google ever *deletes* anything, right?

I was under the impression that when I searched for videos, a pageful of thumbnails would exposé itself within the player - not launch my browser and display the results. Did I miss something or did I expect too much from Google?

I'll keep working this to see if I am wrong.

Here, let's look at the above article. I'll even try to point out some important points:

the free Google Video player allows users to watch videos downloaded from Google Video, view full-screen video, browse scenes within a video using thumbnails, skip to anywhere in the video (even if that portion hasn't downloaded yet), and resume video downloads automatically.

So, why a player? Well, once you've downloaded a video, you can view it without launching a browser (or even have an internet connection). You can do full screen video (something you can't do with a browser), and use the software to download videos (like an FTP app).

The thumbnail view is for showing a scene timeline for the video that is currently playing (like a DVD players scene selection).

The player can also play paid content purchased through the video service...
