PQI debuts 16GB Card Drive

PQI today introduced Card Drive U510, a portable storage device in a credit card-sized enclosure. The Card Drive U510 is just 0.12-inches thick, and offers a storage capacity of 16GB. Card Drive uses PQI's patented Intelligent Stick technology with a retractable connector that users can stow away to retain a credit card format, and provides both USB 2.0 as well as USB 1.1 connectivity. Measuring 2.13 x 3.35 x 0.12-inches, the portable storage drive weighs 0.7-ounces and requires Mac OS X 10.1 or later. The device is shock resistant, and features low power consumption. PQI Card Drive will launch in silver, grey and a limited soccer ball edition (shown at right) next month, according to PQI (pricing was unavailable).

Forget this: Flash iPod?

This is a cool micro-drive technology and all, but when I see flash memory this capacious in this small a package, my first thought is: How long till Apple produces a flash-based iPod (nano or otherwise) at capacities of 16 or even 20GB?

If Jobs's minions are smart, they're already thinking past the rumored 8GB nano to double-digit flash iPods. Bring 'em on!

I have mad respect for PQI. I have one of their Intelligent Sticks, and not only is it slick as crap, but it benches faster than most other USB 2.0 flash drives. It even has a light. The thing is like... practically nonexistant.
