Apple quietly boosts MacBook Pro speeds

Along with the introduction of new consumer MacBooks, the company also updated the speeds of the 15-inch MacBook Pro processors. The $1,999 MacBook Pro now ships with a 2.0GHz Intel Core Duo processor, while the $2,499 model now ships with a 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo chip. The company also added a new "Glossy" display option to its build-to-order options for both the 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro at the Apple Store. Apple says the glossy widescreen display, which ships standard with the new consumer MacBooks, makes graphics, photos, and videos appear with richer color and deeper blacks and is "great for watching DVD movies. If you prefer a display with anti-glare coating for a matte rather than glossy viewing experience, choose the standard widescreen display." The gloss display is available at no extra charge from the Apple Store. The new faster MacBook Pros are available for immediately delivery.

...are just an alternative. check out sony's or toshiba's that have them. they will be more susceptible to glare, but will show deeper blacks and richer color. the old matte screens have an anti-glare coating, but look flatter and less saturated.

toss-up depending on your usage profile.

Rejoice, we get choice and this is an important factor for Sony switchers who are used to the glare and the saturation!!!

screen. My Fujitsu laptop that I use for work has the glossy screen, and it does appear "brighter" than any other laptop I've used personally. It's good that Apple gives the "pros" a choice. A 17-inch glossy screen probably looks awesome, but it might get annoying if the room lighting causes reflections.

"Hahahahahaha Oh, that's funny. You people thinking that Apple's going to upgrade their notebooks and/or imacs with these faster processors! Man, I'll believe it when I see it. Personally, I think they're still in their fixed-price 6-9 month upgrade cycle, not the Dell "Let's change prices weekly based on actual costs" model.

And if they do upgrade, let's then watch all those MBP pro owners whining to the high heavens about paying more money for less of a computer then what they got now, and how apple should show loyalty and all that other crap people usually espouse when they did someething stupid like buy a new compuer right before a MW expo."
