Apple updates cause headache for some

Troubleshooting updates
Dozens of users are reporting problems with Apple's latest updates, which appear to be centered around one or more startup items. A lengthy discussion on Apple's threads indicates that latest round of Apple updates, including QuickTime 7.1 and the latest security update, appear to cause random freezes after startup--especially on Intel-based Macs. The problem has been localized to some startup items such as Adobe Version Cue and users suggest removing the startup items from the startup folder (users can disble startup items by pressing shift after the bootup chime), while others have had success by reinstalling the operating system using Mac OS X's Archive and Install command, which will allow users to return to relatively familiar state (with all applications and documents still available). Others, however, have resorted to a clean install of a new operating system to resolve the problems. [updated]

funny how some people always have problems, and some never do.

Applying the lates Mac OS X Update (10.3.9 or 10.4.6) might eliminate the "problems"

Not FUD

I don't think it's FUD at all. If a handful of people are reporting problems, it's good for me to know. I can always wait a week or two before getting an update, rather than potentially schpongling a machine at work. I don't have Intel Macs, but if I did, I'd probably hold off on my work machines, test it on a home unit, and see if a new update comes out shortly. It wouldn't be the first time, if Apple pulled the update, that they had done that.

but since I rely on Adobe CS, I don't have intel macs yet. Upgraded 6 macs here at home without any problems. For the record: one is a OS X server. (Blue/White G3) All on tiger.

iMac G5 - Powerbok G4 1.5 - G4 Sawtooth - no problems at all. A rather large QT update.

I applied all 3 updates (QT 7.1, Security Update and Front Row update) and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with my Intel iMac. I can't remember the last time I did have a major issue with any Apple software update either.

Hmmm there's a mistake
05/12, 08:38am reply
I had these issues BEFORE the update (and I was under 10.4.6 combo made), so it's not its fault. I can't tell at the moment if it stills occur now (given it's highly random and [censored] my time for weeks).
There's issues with Quicktime 7 since its introduction for the pro audio users (especially with Digidesign Pro Tools).

hey macnn, deleting my post was not appropriate. It was clearly humor, was not in any way offensive, other than making a bit of joke about your articles. Deleting it served no purpose but to lose another reader. Bye!

Disk Utility weirdness
05/12, 09:24am reply
After applying the update, I launched Disk Utility to repair permissions. Clicked repaired permissions. Since I've been repairing permissions, there have always been special permissions that were repaired or used but this time, and the 3 other times I repaired permissions, no special permissions were mentionned and Disk Utility completed by reporting that all permissions have been repaired. Strange...
