MacNN review, Dell falls

In brief: MacNN has reviewed Sibelius 4.1 ($600), an application designed for notation and music scoring.... Shares of Dell fell more than 5 percent today after the company warned investors that earnings for its fiscal quarter would fall below guidance due to price cuts.... More than 60 fourth-graders recently visited the Apple store at the Northshore Mall, convincing one teacher that Apple's presentations are good to the core.... Apple has begun pushing its new "Get a Mac" campaign, which launched last week on the Web with prominent video ad placements on high-profile sites such CNN.com and ESPN.com.... One MacNN reader noted that the Palm Tradeup Program does not support Apple's Safari Web browser, marking yet another large site leaving Mac users out in the cold.

    Well.

We know what to do with Dell; sell the company, and give back…

    Ahem...

When will the "media" start referring to Dell as "beleaguered"?

"Beleaguered computer maker Dell today saw it's stock drop 5%."

Kinda just rolls of the tongue, doesn't it.

    When the popular media

finally starts calling Dell "beleaguered," that would be good indicator to start buying Dell stock.

    Palm getting dumber...

    by the day.

    The article says:

"One MacNN reader noted that the Palm Tradeup Program does not support Apple's Safari Web browser, marking yet another large site leaving Mac users out in the cold."

But it does work fine in Firefox, so I don't feel too "left out in the cold." And I just found out my trusty old Handspring Visor Pro (16MB) with a 512MB CF card in the Springboard slot, has "has a trade in value of $0." Guess I'll just have to "suffer" along with it until it breaks... In a "trade-in program," isn't it typical to give a nomimal value on the trade-in (such as $10) just as incentive to make a sale, even if the true market value is really $0.

    Safari needs work

To be fair, Safari in many ways still needs some work under the hood. That is why it does not work on many sites, but Firefox does.

    - no, it doesn't. safari is one of, if not the most standards compliant browser out there. incompatibilities come from bad or lazy web developers who can't be bothered to make something work in safari.

the compatibility that the safari team works on is basically adding additional "quirks mode" browsing options, e.g. purposely breaking the rendering engine to work with poorly coded sites

    re: safari needs work

Safari *does* need work, even the development team recognises this. For instance, check out this list of WYSIWYG HTML editors for browsers - notice how many of them don't work in Safari?
