\"Get A Mac\" TV ads posted
As noted at last week's shareholders meeting, Apple has launched its new "Get A Mac" ad campaign focused on the Mac platform. Apple has posted its new series of Mac TV ads, which began airing during primetime on Monday and showcase two actors outlining the differences between the Mac and Windows platforms and (of course) the advantages of the Mac platform, but emphasizing compatibility, ease-of-use, the bundled iLife applications, and more. The six different spots, available in four different sizes, are titled Viruses, Restarting, Better, iLife, Network, and WSJ and tout the beneifts the Mac over Windows computers. Apple also posted a list of 14 reasons Why you'll love a Mac and the seven untrue reasons that prevented users from buying a Mac, beginning with "It just works: Your toaster doesn’t crash. Your kitchen sink doesn’t crash. Why should your computer? Think of the countless hours you would save if your PC worked on your time — not the other way around. Then think about a Mac."

Hmmm. Don't like em.

At their heart, these are mean-spirited ads. And they perpetuate the image that Macs are "bohemian" and only used by grungy artsy-fartsy types who don't want to do real work, but just want to play with pictures and music. I'm guessing we won't seem them for long because they aren't that appealing.

But what's with the sync? seems out in places, perfect in others. Looks like they actually overdubbed the entire commercial in Viruses.

My first reaction was negative. Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle. I spent the first viewing examining your personification of the Mac and PC to see if it was accurate. The ads seem to say, "The PC guy is uncool and foolish." Why spend time saying that? When you embarass/insult the personification of the PC, those in that group tend to rationalize and dig their heels in. Instead of making fun of PC people, show them the Apple light.
Why not SHOW the Mac for what it is - a cutting-edge tool for easily getting work done. Show the elegant iApps - make a commercial on each one. Show MS Office, show Bootcamp. The iApps' easy professionalism will amaze, while Office and Bootcamp will reassure. Rather than feeling vaguely insulted, PC people may feel curious and excited.

I actually liked them. Especially the networking one. But I may be a little biased.

It is just me, or it's look like a homosexual couple playing around? I'm not against g** comunity but I'm just saying... it would be cool to show off about what Mac OS X can do for you, and how good your mac is by showing it. what do you think?

Grunge Guy...?

...the 'Mac' guy is the antithesis image of Mac - what has grunge got to do with leading edge industrial design? These ads are an anathema to everything I know about the 'new' computers... Apple's current strength is their industrial design & custom apps...
Macs still have many challenges in a windows world, based on my experiences with my new macbook...
Grunge guy's image will also probably further alienate suits, which is I suppose what I sense as the inherent ad irony...
If comparison is necessary, I'd rather see positive association ads comparing macs to leading edge design in other areas, such as J105 yachts, bmw's, anything where obsessive attention to detail & hybrid design features offer benefits...
I can find very quickly 10 things a pc can do far better than a mac, especially after spending the weekend working on my books & taxes...

I never liked the "negative" ad strategy in this or any other competition

...between the mac and pc. In most instances the claims either are unsupported, poorly supported or if present, are a target for discredit. Particularly the virus threats. I think there are good things about both platforms although I can work nearly 100% in OS X and prefer it. The iLife and iWork products are nice and individually work very well; but in a mixed environment you need to have PC and Mac skills to retain Mac purity.
