New Apple products coming
Apple likely will not be holding a special event for its 30th anniversary on or near April 1st, according to a new analyst report. UBS IT Hardware Analyst Ben Reitzes said that while he still expects Apple to introduce new products in the near-term, the company will not be holding a special event around its anniversary. "We continue to believe that Apple will introduce new Intel-based iBooks (important for education) and a larger MacBook Pro in the June quarter," Reitzes wrote to clients. "We forecast Mac units to improve in fiscal third quarter of 2006 (June) to -1 percent year over year from -9 percent year over year in the second quarter of 2006 (March). We still believe that a new video iPod, download service & new iPods are coming this year by the fall." Maintaining its current forecasts, the research firm said that the potential near-term risks for Mac and iPod sales are already reflected in shares. USB has a price target of $100.

The anniversary date was mentioned during the last keynote and obviously, something is in the pipe...

Clearly this guy doesn't know Job's desire for showmanship. I would be extremely surprised if Apple didn't do anything, even just announce a product that won't ship for a month just to be able to do something special for 4/1.

It IS coming a little close now, with no word on what's going to happen. I really hope not, though.

Oooh, he said at the keynote "Hey, our 30th anniversary is coming up"! That must mean that the tablet mac, iWalk PDA, iPhone, and G5 powerbooks are going to be announced on that day!
I mean, he couldn't have mentioned it for the sake of mentioning it, could he?
And if apple was going to do something, don't you think that the 20th anniversary of the mac would've been a great time to do something fantastic. Or something small. Or something at all, like recognize the mac's birthday? But what did they do? NOTHING AT ALL. And I mean nothing. They didn't even mention it on their site. Especially with Jobs' 'showmanship'.
So why is this anniversary (the 30th annivesary of what, the Apple II?) any different?
Oh, and Jobs' "baby" is the Mac, not Apple computer. Apple was building Apple IIs and all those things, but he pushed for the mac, more than anyone else.

Maybe not on Apr. 1, since it comes out on a Saturday. I would guess Mar. 31 (Friday before) or April 3 or 4 (following Monday or Tuesday).

The best thing they could do right now, considering that any 'special event' causes so much hype and rumours is just launch the next big new product on with no announcement - straight up on the Apple store.
They'll still get loads of publicity as everyone discusses their new strategy.

Testudo, the April fool's anniversary has nothing at all to do with the Mac. Apple Computer, founded April 1, 1976. Wozniak & Jobs, 1 circuit board, 1 piece of plywood.

Actually, Apple did celebrate their 20th anniversary with a new design: the TAM

Well, duh! I know that. What I'm saying is that they didn't do anything to celebrate Job's true baby, the Mac (the thing he pushed in to existence, not some two bit company starting with a piece of plywood and looking to hack phone systems).

I Said "20th anniversary of the mac", which was Jan 24th, 2004, a date that was so highly rumored and expectant of something to occur, mac wise, and Apple didn't even acknowledge it.
The TAM, which was under someone else's watch (Scully?), was also a big bust, an extremely overpriced computer, even by Apple's standards, that few people bought or wanted (yeah, some did, because they'll buy anything apple, or can afford to, but that's it).
The best thing they could do right now, considering that any 'special event' causes so much hype and rumours is just launch the next big new product on with no announcement - straight up on the Apple store.

How would this be the best thing? The pre-show rumors and hype being trounced by their next big thing? Wouldn't that make for much more buzz then seeing something show up on their store some morning (sorry, but the computer press doesn't sit around all day refreshing apple.com looking for the latest in new gizmos).
