Apple WWDC pushed back to August 7-11

Apple\'s WWDC in August

Apple today announced the dates for its 2006 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), which will be held in San Francisco. The annual conference, which usually takes place in June, will now take place from August 7 - 11, 2006. The event offers in-depth sessions, unique insight, and access to Apple engineers and has been used by Apple to make operating system announcements. Last year, the company used the forum to unveil its plans to transition Intel-based Macs. Early registration runs through June 23 and offers $300 discount on all packages. Apple is offering two promotions: a WWDC 2006 E-ticket and ADC Select Membership for $2000 ($100 discount) and WWDC 2006 E-ticket 5-pack for $6,380 ("buy four, get a fifth free"). During early registration, both packages are discounted by $300 and $1,200, respectively. WWDC could herald the first public preview of Leopard, the next version of Apple's operating system and the first Intel-based Power Macs, as the new Intel Xeon processors for high-end workstations and servers are expected to be available around the same timeframe. Hello Leopard.

OK so this could also caused by the attempted release of the Intel PowerMac. The chips that are destined to go in the sucker are scheduled around the midyear timeframe but I'm also thinking they want to get Leopard as polished as possible before releasing it to their developers. I expect great things out of Leopard. Yes great things. Much more then the incremental updates that came with Panther then Tiger.

    Not fair!

Not fair!! How is Microsoft going to catch up and release Vista if Apple keeps adding new things for them to copy.

    Something not ready

I'm guessing that something won't be ready by the usual time of WWDC; either Leopard or MacTowers(if they are going with a stupid name for the Intel PowerBooks, why not an even dumber name for the Intel PowerMacs).

    Leopard?

There's no real details (even rumors) of new features in the new OS out there yet, is there?

    Leopard in June 2007?

OS X Tiger was unveiled at WWDC 2004 and released the following April 2005. Does the delay of WWDC by two months indicate a 2 month delay in the release date? Or perhaps there's just a level of paranoia about Microsoft lifting a few pieces of Leopard for the final release of Vista that they're delaying until Vista's on the verge of going GM before lifting the veil of secrecy.
