Intel sales, AOL takes aim
In brief: Intel slashed its first-quarter sales goal to between $8.7 billion and $9.1 billion from an earlier $9.1 billion to $9.7 billion, after weak demand and share loss took its toll on the chipmaker earlier this week.... Intel also announced on its developer forum that it is unveiling new innovations in "next generation micro-architecture and energy efficient performance" at San Francisco's Moscone Center March 7-9th.... A recent analysis suggests that Apple's biggest competitor may be mobile phones with the ability to play music, rather than other digital music player manufacturers.... One of AOL's top executives today said the company plans to offer TV programming on its website by the middle of this year.... Sony is planning to introduce its new Walkman in the U.S. this spring, but industry watchers say features fall short of Apple's current offerings.

iPod vs. Phones
There are two things here: First-I don't know anybody that uses their phones for too much more than a phone, sure having a camera is nice to have b/c most almost always have their phone with them, but if you intend to take photos, a camera phone just can't do it as well as a real camera. The same is true with a PIM, a phone can do it, but if you want the same kind of experience with a phone/PIM, the phone tends to be too big for convenience for most people. And lastly on this point, with the exception of the uber techno geeks, the more functions you put on a device, the more complicated it becomes, causing regular joes to shy away, or just never use the full function of the phone. Second-Barring point one, mobile phone companies (specifically Verizon), need to present a reasonable and easy to use purchasing structure and need to work on pricing. If phone companies would just focus on providing excellent phone service and stop trying to rape consumers by disabling phone features and allow other companies easier access to their customers, maybe they CAN provide better service.
