CBS offers \"Survivor\"
CBS announced that it is making its reality-TV show "Survivor" available for download on its own website--CBS.com--for $1.99 per episode, even as the network offers many of its other popular titles via Apple's iTunes Music Store. Larry Kramer, president of CBS Digital Media said CBS is likely to make more of its content available, depending on the success of the "Survivor" effort, according to MarketWatch. "If it does go well, you will definitely see more content going up on the site." Kramer said the show, which will be available after its premiere on Thursday, will be commercial free, but CBS is looking into potential sponsorship arrangements.
Kramer also said that the downloads are primarily being offered as a convenience for regular watchers, rather than a move to attract new viewers, according to the report. CBS has signed content distribution pacts with Comcast and Google, in an attempt to lure new viewers. The executive added that CBS is in talks about other distribution deals with a wide range of parties, including Apple.
