First MacBook Pro, iBook to become MacBook, now Mac Pro for the PowerMac, whats left of the iLine? just the legacy iMac? The Mac Mini? How about making an AIO that's similar to the TAM or Classic Macs and call it "Mac Vintage?"

Mac Mini Mac Mac Pro

MacBook mini MacBook MacBook pro

Just speculation.

Seems pretty straightforward to me. The new names don't bother me at all. It just makes sense to have Mac in all the names Apple is in the business of making money. So, branding trumps all else.

I will miss the PowerBook name, but it doesn't say anything at all about being part of the Mac family of computers. Apple has a lot of new people coming to the purchasing table, so clear, straightforward branding is a must.

Outside the Apple store during holiday shopping season, I twice overheard people say, "hey, there's the iPod store!" That should tell you right there why there can not be any branding confusion in Apple's product line.

"AppleMacs"

Like many companies that have been around for a while, there's a lot of jumble to be cleared out.

I can't wait to stop hearing people call the computers "AppleMacs". As if their car was a "HondaCivic".

The keyboards all have a mixture of symbols and names on them, that don't appear on the menus. People call it the "Apple key" but have to look for the "clover" symbol on the menu to find they keyboard shortcut. Same with the other keys. Windows is clearer here, their menus say "Ctrl" and "Shift"; exactly what it says on the button.

Gotta keep it simple for Jo Public.

Heh, I already have a non-Power-PC Powerbook.

It's got a 68000 in it.

No need to change the name.

It's not like we're in the days when Apple sold 800 variations of Quadras, Performas and Centrises. I doubt anyone was confused about what a PowerBook and a PowerMac was.

MacBook Pro (and maybe Mac Pro I guess), might be the worst names Apple has ever come up with. I guess they feel they need to differentiate the Intel line from the PowerPC line, but given how they are killing their PowerPC sales, maybe they should have been more aggressive and scrapped the low end PowerPC offerings.
