Bare Bones\' Yojimbo 1.0
Bare Bones today announced Yojimbo 1.0, a new information organizer that helps users store, organize, and retrieve virtually any type of information. Leveraging an iTunes-like single-window interface, the software features several different input methods, including a hotkey to quickly add clipboard material or URLs using a "Quick Input Panel," a drag & drop "junk" drawer to which users can drag virtually any selectable text and/or images, and PDF-print feature that can "print" electronic documents in PDF format directly into the appication's database. Leveraging Mac OS X Tiger's sync services, Yojimbo offers transparent sync services for seamless integration with AddressBook, iCal, .Mac and more. In addition, the software offers "smart categories"--much like iTunes' smart playlists--item-by-item encryption, instant search filtering, Spotlight integration, and more. Pricing starts at $40 for a single-user license (on any number of computers).
"We designed Yojimbo with an intense focus on providing an effortless user experience, so that it stays out of your way and yet remains at your fingertips," said Rich Siegel, founder and CEO of Bare Bones. "Yojimbo makes it easy for any Mac user -- from novices to uber-geeks -- to stay organized without resorting to mental gymnastics."
An encryption subsystem allows customers to encrypt individual dataitems for storage, without interfering with ease of retrieval.Yojimbo encrypts data using the secure AES-256 algorithm standard. Its simple, flexible storage system allows for additional, personally-defined organization of data. Support for Mac OS X's Sync Services synchronization provides data portability for .Mac account
holders, allowing users of Apple's paid .Mac service to sync data among multiple computers as well as perform incremental data backup to an off-site location.
Yojimbo 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later. A fully functional demo is available. A family pack for all users in a single location is $70. Bare Bones is also offering a $10 discount on a student edition, which limits use to a single user on a single computer.
