Logic Pro 7.2 for Intel

Apple is showing an Intel-native version of its high-end audio application, Logic Pro 7 at the NAMM music show in Anaheim, Calif, according to a new report. Ahead of schedule in its development, Apple reportedly will release the new Logic Pro 7.2 update in February 2006, according to Macworld. The professional audio application was shown on the NAMM show floor with exceptional performance: "The performance is stunning and has met my already high expectations," said Dr. Gerhard Lengeling, Apple senior director and lead architect audio/music apps. Version 7.2 also increases compatibility with important third-party hardware and software as well as brings a host of other new features, such as improved support for Pro Tools, ReWire, and Garageband 3. Crossgrades to the Intel-native Logic Pro 7.2 will be $50.

Logic Pro 7.2 will offer several new features, such as integrated support for the new Ensemble Firewire audio interface solution from Apogee Electronics, providing superb Apogee sound quality, mix-and-match expandability, and breakthrough pricing as well as support for Digidesign Pro Tools HD 7 DAE and Serato Pitch ‘n Time. Apple says that Logic Pro 7.2 is fully compatible with the Pro Tools 7.1 version of DAE, including features such as ESB and EXS24TDM.

Logic Pro 7.2 also provides support for stereo Rewire objects--more clearly labeling the incoming Rewire streams to reflect the source application. In addition, users can create Rewire objects directly from the Create Multiple option in the Arrange window.

Garangeband, podcasting support

Apple also updated the software application to ensure compatibility with Garageband 3 sessions by offering direct playback of AAC and Apple Lossless files. It will also feature a new "ducking plug-in" to automatically reduce sound from specific channels and bring a new speech enhancement plugin that provides a simple option for cleaning up and enhancing recordings made with the built-in microphones.

In addition, the updated version of Logic Pro will bundle the same Jingles and Sound Effects library that ship with iLife ’06. A dedicated Effects button in the Loop Browser will allow users to view and filter this new collection of sounds, which includes more than 200 Sound Effects and 100 Jingles.
