    OMG!

The new imac boots up quicker! That's all we need to know!

Except, of course, who boots up computers anymore?

    intel vs g5 imac

In defense of the older iMac:

I know that the more that I use my G5 tower (the more things I install and such), the longer the boot time has become. So if the Intel iMac is barely used and the G5 has been around the block a few times—then I'd expect to see exactly what the video shows.

That said, it's still an impressive speed difference.

I am so sick of this...

I have owned an iMac since the 20" 1.8GHz model came out and it has NEVER taken this long to boot. I'm sorry but that video is in no way a reflection of the G5's average time to boot. We have several at work and none of these acts in this manner either. So either something is wrong with it or there is something else going on.

    Universal Binaries...

Dashboard Widgets can be universal binaries?

Does that mean that other plugin architectures will allow that too? What about iTunes plugins?

    Yes on universal binaries

Apple has sample code for a universal browser plug-in that works with Safari. I've tested it natively on both PPC and Intel, and it works fine. You can also build Intel-only browser plug-ins if you really want to.

I don't know about iTunes or anything else, but I would imagine for any application in active development, universal plug-in capability is coming if it's not there yet.
