Macs get Intel chips, others wait

updated 12:50 pm EST, Fri January 13, 2006

No Yonah for PCs

While Apple fans cheer the release of the new Intel-based Macs, corporate buyers of notebooks from Dell and Hewlett-Packard are unhappy that consumers may purchase Duo Core machines from Apple now, while they will have to wait for weeks for that corporate policy, buying cycles, and necessity are forcing them to choose either current Dell and HP models or wait longer than expected for the new Intel processors. Many corporate notebook buyers frequently purchase tens of thousands of machines, and since most companies are unlikely to allow mass purchases of Macs instead of PCs, Intel now risks antagonising corporate buyers with the delayed availability of Yonah PCs.

    Huh.

Um. I'm pretty sure no one will be dropping Intel because of this.

    Huh?

    What are these people, twelve?

If the new machines are that important, they should make the good business decision to wait. It's not like existing machines are exploding or vanishing. You can't rush corporate purchase policies, but I have yet to see one that can't be delayed. Considering the PC world waits 4 years for an OS upgrade, this is cake.

If they can't wait, then they can get all the speedy Intel based computers thay seem to need from Apple. It's not like the laws of physics just got rewritten and the world can only operate with Windows running on top of Yonah boxes.

    How does it feel...

…now that the shoe is on the other foot. Usually the PC users get the latest tech while the Mac crowd usually has to wait. (Talking mostly about 3rd party stuff, which Intel is arguably considered since they mostly supply the CPU, & sometimes the motherboards w/ integrated video for the really cheap PCs, but don’t actually build the PCs or any of the other components.) Do you ever hear us complain? Well, maybe sometimes, but the first time that the M$ users have to wait for something that Macs are getting now and everyone is up in arms. All kidding aside, from a business standpoint I can see why the corporate users are anxious to get their hands on the new chips. Some companies are on a quarterly budget based spending cycle, which the 1st quarter ending soon. Depending on how their department is doing, they might or might not have the cash to wait until the next quarter or quarter after that to buy new systems. Will this cause PC makers to drop Intel? Not very likely. Will the PC users have to suck it up & wait? All signs point to yes. Then again they are better off switching to Macs ;)

    Two words...

    Wake-up Call

IT depts have become as ossified as the accounting depts and something needs to kick them out of their ruts and use their brains again. Other than getting patches on all their legions of machines and dealing with virus issues (and locking up fired employees-a bigger % of the job than most imagine), most IT folks have lost the innovative thinking that got them in the field. Time to shake things up and get Macs back in the mix.

... what happpens when your late to the buffet...

I hope the keep their suited palms ot of our warehouse.

Last thing we need is a short supply because the mass of IT decided they wanted to eat Apples .. instead of their solient green.

Let the blob stay where it is.
