High expectations for Apple in 2006

updated 03:20 pm EST, Mon January 9, 2006

Apple\'s future bright

Apple set record sales figures in 2005 and dominated over its competition, but whether the company will be able to maintain its current performance in 2006 despite Dell and Hewlett-Packard. Given the popularity of Apple's iPod and the coming merge of Intel-based processors with Apple's trademark simplicity, Apple can be expected to gain larger portions of the PC market this year and next.

    Mac sales

I to have high expectations for Apple this year, doubling there marketshare for PC's is one of them. If the iPods have reached there ceiling i don't know but there is a huge market for an Intel Mac that runs Windows apps in osX. Lets hope Apple brings us this windows compatibility.

Some see this as a threat to the MacOS and there developers but users will want the osX experience and many many apps will be brought to us i'm sure.

    ...Those who cant...teach

This guy obviously did not follow what happened in Jobs second coming and is trying to predict what will happen based upon his academic teachings. He theorizes that the reason Jobs has succeeded when "good" and "proven" managers" from other companies such as Sculley, Spindler and Amelio failed was because they could not change the corporate culture within Apple whereas Jobs was less of a manager who succeeded because "he stopped trying to change the company" and return to the companys past to "make cool products, based on proprietary architectures." Under his predecessors, Apple's product line had become bloated and confusing. One of the first significant moves Jobs made was to narrow the product line into 4 categories - Consumer vs Professional, Desktop vs Portable which became the iBook, Powerbook, iMac, PowerMac. He also made the right (but unpopular within Apple circles) decision to kill the Newton, which was ahead of its time but comercially unsucessful. That kind of management along with innovative prodcuts started the company turn around.

    Jobs is a rare gem

He'll go down in history with the likes of inventors such as Edison and maybe Franklin. He knows his place in history.

I hope that Apple is smart enough to capitalize on his genius while he still walks the earth and hopefully is smart enough to have some young protege who can learn from him.

    About the Newton

ffurillo said "the Newton, which was ahead of its time but comercially unsucessful". That's not totally true. The Newton was initially not commercially successful, but when it was axed the sales were good and rising, at last.
