Apple makes CES impact

While Apple may not be exhibiting at the annual CES show in Las Vegas, to portable and downloadable video are counters to Apple's aggressive moves into the digital/online world and have Apple as the measuring stick for success. During Sony's own time to explain the progress it has made in overhauling the company strategy, "Apple kept coming up--either explicitly or in the background," according to the report. The company created its e-reader tablet strategy with the iPod/iTunes model in mind--making money off the hardware and selling the titles itself through its online Connect service--and also noted that it hired a former Apple exec to help bolster its Connect service and ensure that Sony's clever electronics have an equally clever and useful software interface.

    Don't worry Bill

Don't worry Bill. Steve will show you just how it's done next week. Since it's taken you four years to figure out a strategy to counter what Apple's been doing lately, I wonder how many sleepless nights you'll have over the next few years figuring out your response to this weeks keynote.

But don't listen to the critics. You didn't become the richest man on earth by slick presentations and on stage dramatics. You did it with mediocre products that were poor imitations of true innovations. Just focus on what you do best and the drones will buy it.

    Good Luck Apple!

I hope Apple is able to keep Yahoo and Google at bay and dominate the portable video arena. At the very least, it would be nice for the iPod to work with both Yahoo and Google's services if Apple doesn't have as much success with videos at they do with music.

    Shutdown Microcrap!

Close shop Billy Boy. I think you've humiliated yourself enough with that poor excuse of whatever it is that you were trying to present.

You couldn't innovate if Steve Jobs handed you a 1-2-3 How to innovate list.

Shutdown Microshit and watch technology bloom. At the same time, would someone please buy those idiots at Microsoft a dictionary and hilite the word 'innovate'.

    Same s*!? different year

Timeless comments aren't very useful. Did somebody actually have time to watch the CES demo and could speak his mind about it?

    MS & Walmart Similarities

I'm coming to the realization that Microsoft is the Walmart of computer software..

Its the largest in town, offers cheap solutions at a cheap price but looses on the quality.

That sentence says it all, it can be applied to both companies.

Apple is the Bloomingdales/Nordstrome of the software/hardware world. Striving for the best of the best at a higher price but the quality stands..

So if you want to wear a Walmart, sweat-shop t-shirt then shop at Walmart. If you want a nice designer made shirt that's a little price but well within fashion then get it at Boomingdales.

If you want a c*** computer that doesn't run well, get a PC and if you want a highly well designed and well running computer then buy a Mac.

    CES

I attend CES and seen many of the product for iPod and competing technologies. Personally I think Apple needs to allow other manufactures the ability to play the music you purchased from iTMS. We are only at the beginning of converging Audio/Video and PC into one industry. Apple will need to license its DRM/FairPlay technologies.

I’m not saying Apple can’t succeed but they can’t do it alone either. iPod accessories will only carry the iTunes platform so far. Manufacturers are trying to build the product customer want but can’t because they can’t access your iTunes music library.

Wouldn’t it be convenient if your DENON or Sony surround sound receiver could play your iTunes library (Audio & Video)? Because Apple won’t license its forcing manufacturer to adopt other technology's.

For you old timers, this should sound familiar.

    Re:different year

I watched the keynote and I had trouble staying awake. Gates is not a skilled presenter at all. The tech demo that followed looked like a dejavu of my daily use of Tiger.

    re: MS & Walmart Similar

    DUDE!! Bad analogy man.

Apple and Microsoft are Manufacturers. Boomingdales and Walmart are resellers of manufacturers' products...comparing apple and oranges buddy.

    Furthermore:

Microsoft = Software Company Apple = Hardware Company ...NOT THE SAME

Also, with Mac systems, you are paying a higher price partly because of quality and markup but mainly because those quality designed systems are produced and sold in such low volumes compared to other WIN based computers...Low Volume = Higher Cost...business 101 man.

With that said, I own 4 Macs and love them for their tremendous quality and ease of use. I am totally willing to pay the higher cost for what I think is a superior product.
