Mactel notebook ODMs

Apple has apparently surfaced for Intel "Yonah" processors, the chips which are widely believed to be a likely candidate for Apple's first-generation Intel Macs.

    Punk'd

Man, Apple is really laying out the rumors to keep up the pretense!

Man, this is going to be so cool. All you "Can't wait for Intel" folks are going to be so upset once Steve-o comes on stage with Mr Demi Moore an announce that this whole intel thing was one big practical joke!

And that the G5 powerbooks are right around the corner!

[and don't say it can't happen. Remember how jobs got us on that "3GHz next year" thing! Man, that was a riot!]

    I dunno

Steve seems to love getting people's hopes up and then changing directions on us. As much as I'd love to see an Intel PowerBook, new iPhone, etc., etc., I've learned to believe it when I see it. It's painful to get your hopes up too much just to see the "one more thing" be a letdown or nothing special.

But is it fascinating how he manages to capture our attenting with these circus performances... He must love the anticipation and excitement and even encourage a rumor or two to stir the pot. He's like the Michael Jordan of technology announcements and we'll all miss him when he's gone (and wonder who can fit his shoes).

    Jumping to conclusions

What on Earth are those earlier posts talking about? Apple hasn't said a thing. Apple hasn't promised a thing. Once again, an article says that a document as appeared from a source very far from Apple headquarters that makes them GUESS what is going to happen, and once again some careless readers see it as an OFFICIAL Announcement from Apple when it is not. We still don't know anything about what is really going to happen.

    thank you

Thank you Corsair. How do you blame Apple for speculations of other people? Not one word about iPhone, intel powerbooks, iBooks, yonah or mac mini has come from Apple. If it did, it wouldnt be a rumor now would it? D'UH!

Did Jobs promise 3Ghz in a year? Yes. Does his company make the G5 chips? No. So clearly, that had nothing to do with Apple. Maybe IBM said they would reach 3ghz and didnt.. gee, that couldnt be possible, could it? (one more D'UH for ya)

A better example of punk'd would be the video iPod, which he said no to. But hey.. youre a company who's trying to keep in secrets. What else do you do?

Do you honestly think Apple is going to punk Intel and every single developer they have? That is so laughable... Oh yeah.. that 200 man hours u wasted porting your s/ware to Intel.. it was just a joke! But i'm not saying it cant happen.. I'm saying it wont happen! :P

    Get real...

If Apple where to change directions after encouraging its developers to spend boucoup time and bucks on porting their software to Intel, it would open itself up to a massive class action suit. G5s may happen too, but Intel will have to happen at this point if Apple doesn't want to get sued out of existance. There is no reason Apple cannot be a two processor company. Remember, for years it was a mulitple OS company and did just fine.

A more interesting question is of the ethics of lying about things like the video iPod. We teach our children that honesty is necessary and the best policy, etc, however we then see our corporations (and government) lying all the time, right up to that point where they tell the truth. Would it be acceptable for your child to lie to you, right up to the point where he couldn't hide the truth any more? Hopefully not; we shouldn't expect anythihng less from our companies (and government). "No comment" can suffice.

    Misleading

Actually, regarding the iPod with video and Jobs saying Apple didn't plan on making a video iPod, I believe it is illegal for companies to make intentionally misleading statements. However, that being said, the instance of Job's comments that most press points to was an interview conducted in late 2004, nearly a year before the iPod with video was released. Also, the main reason given for not making a video iPod was that there was no content available. When the original iPod was released, MP3 was already hear. But how do you build available video content when there is no good player (and thus no demand) for it? Apple has always been careful to call it the iPod with video, NOT a video iPod. I think the current iPod's capabilities are merely a way to allow users to watch video while Apple builds up the content to justify the true video iPod.

Geesh, don't you people understand the concept. He's not punking intel. Intel's in on it. He's punking the mac community. Man, you people apparently need apple to come out with a new program, called 'iClue', so you all can get one.

    January, not April

I'm fairly sure that it's not April 1 yet, testudo. I think you should see somebody about that paranoia.
