Objective Development today released , a new major release of their long standing SMB file system for Unix. Version 3.0 offers Windows domain integration (including Kerberos authentication and Active Directory browsing), Distributed File System access, manipulation of Access Control Lists, a German localization and many other improvements. Sharity mounts shares exported by Windows, Samba and other SMB/CIFS servers in the file system of Unix computers. It implements Resource Browsing similar to the Windows Network Neighborhood (Netbios Workgroups and Active Directory), NTLM, NTLMv2 and Kerberos authentication, Microsoft's Distributed File System (DFS), manipulation of Access Control Lists (ACLs).
Sharity offers access to directories exported by Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, 2003, XP, and Samba as well as automatic resource location through Network browsing similar to Windows Network Neighborhood. Users can offered options for boht command-line and GUI access. Version 3.0 is also internationalized for English and German, character set conversion for Asian encodings.
Sharity 3 offers a variety of license options. Commercial use licenses are available for $200, while private use licenses for $20 (net prices excluding VAT). Licenses for students of public schools and universities are free. Discounts for upgrades from Sharity 2 and volume discounts are also available. It is available as free trial for Sun Solaris, HP-UX, SGI IRIX, IBM AIX, Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD and OpenBSD operating systems.
