Mac Store opening near MS

Computer Stores NW--owners of the regional chain known as --is set to open a new retail store just three miles from the world headquarters of Microsoft in Redmond, Washington. "With the popularity of the iPod, and the resulting growing popularity of the Mac and Apple in general, we thought it was time to see Redmond with a Mac Store in its backyard," said Kevin Anderson, CEO of Computer Stores NW. "Despite the presence of Microsoft as a major employer in that area, we know there are many Mac devotees in their ranks, and of course the area has great demographics for the iPod and all its accessories." With seven retail/service stores, The Mac Store chain is a longtime local Mac devotee hangout in the northwest, and has become the largest Apple Specialist in the U.S., a special designation given to Apple-centric outlets that achieve specific goals and guidelines for the reselling of Apple products.

Additionally, the Mac Stores have complete service and repair centers, training facilities called "Mac University," and an outbound service called "Mac Housecalls." The store will also offer a bin of Groucho Marx glasses "for the use of any Microsoft employee who wants to protect his or her identity while shopping in an Apple-based store."

The new Mac Store will launch Saturday December 17th in the Redmond Town Center, 7501 166th Ave. NE. Redmond.

This will be fun to watch

It's the same as opening a flashy BMW showroom on the campus of GM in Detroit, MI... I'm sure those Groucho Marx glasses/mustache will be flying off those shelves... It has been reported here that there were angry internal memos by Billy G. and Steve Balmer, on the account of wearing white earbuds on MS campus. And this was NOT just in the MacBU area! It'll be fun to wach what the bosses do when their folks start frequenting the new store...

    Too bad

The Computer Store NW has a reputation for terrible service, not to mention fugly interior design. They really offer a nasty retail experince. Hmmm, maybe it's a way to preach to the unconverted...

    too good

For every reseller there's someone who seems to bear some old grudge-- you obviously haven't been in the Mac Store for quite a while. Totally redecorated, a great committment to customer service, lots of inventory. You can credit any market dynamics you want for the reasons, but The Mac Store has upgraded itself into the upper quality echelon of Apple resellers, there's no doubt about that!

    Yuck

If Microsoft itself wasn't reason enough not to go to Redmond, this certainly will top it off. I've never, ever had a good experience at any one of the four or five Mac Stores (or "The Computer Store" as it used to be known) I've been to. But hey, I once sold an iMac during "Demo Days" at the Sears store in the Overlake shopping center in Redmond. That's only about one mile from the Microsoft HQ campus, so I think I still may hold the record for the closest sale of an Apple computer ever to Microsoft!

    Agree w/steve in Seattle

I have to agree with 'steve in seattle'. I also have never had a good experience with this Apple retailer. However, I'll give it a try as it's not too far from home and is on the way to/from work so that makes it a plus right there. If their make over is anything like the bone fide Apple Stores then that would be a BIG plus also. I'll certainly give it a try and yay to yet another Apple retailer in the area - about time to.
