Adobe acquires Macromedia
($1,900)--offering Macromedia Studio 8 and Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium--, and a Video Bundle, which has yet to be announced. [updated]
The acquisition forms one of the worlds largest diversified multimedia software companies, bringing together Flash technology with the current Adobe product line for creating, managing, and delivering content and experiences across multiple operating systems, devices and media. The move also accelerates Adobe's strategic initiative to advance a powerful software platform--based on PDF and Macromedia Flash technologies--that scales from mobile devices to high-end servers. Macromedia common stock is no longer being traded, and shares of Macromedia common stock have been converted into the right to receive 1.38 shares of Adobe common stock.
This week Adobe will begin executing the planned integration of the two companies' operations, networks and customer care organizations to ensure a smooth transition and immediate value for customers, partners and investors. Management of the combined company includes executives and board members from both organizations--Bruce Chizen continues as chief executive officer and Shantanu Narayen remains as president and chief operating officer. Macromedia's Stephen Elop has joined Adobe as president of worldwide field operations, while Murray Demo remains executive vice president and chief financial officer. Dr. John Warnock and Dr. Charles Geschke remain co-chairmen of the Board of Directors of the combined company and Macromedia's chairman, Rob Burgess, has joined the Adobe Board.

Freehand was always a quirky yet faithful tool. Will be missed.
Speaking of which: Do any adobe products offer the "tiling" feature of freehand when printing (automatically printing a file over several pages)? That feature alone will keep old versions of freehand in my tool chest.

Well, who needs competition in the realm of software anyway. There'll always be TWO companies: MS & Adobe. What more could we need. ( always = for three years. MS will probably eat Adobe by then.)

What's up with Dreaweave

I thought (for sure) that Dreamweaver would survive and that GoLive will fall by the wayside...
If not exactly WHY did we all get the shaft with a recent upgrade to Macromedia Studio 8?!!! The only reason I spent the $400+ for Studio 8 was because I was convinced that Dreamweaver would continue into the future; NOT GoLive!
What's the scoop?

AT&T was a massive monopoly that had control over most of the telecommunications industry, which is relied on by the entire country for not only business but the government is absolutely critical that it is available at all times. It's government regulated because it's so important.
who makes the best graphics app and web design software is such a trivial market that it doesn't even come up on the radar.

Hopefully adobe will recognize that the reason Macromedia was a competator was because they made many products that many people uh, use. I can't imagine they will force everyone over to the respective Adobe progs... I have to think programs like dreamweaver and fireworks will continue to be updated, albeit with different load screens... if not, it may be time to start fire bombing.
