Digidesign ships Pro Tools

today announced that Pro Tools 7 software is now shipping for Pro Tools|HD and Pro Tools LE systems and said that Pro Tools 7 M-Powered will follow soon. The highly anticipated updates deliver a wealth of new features and enhancements such as significantly expanded recording and editing capabilities for audio and MIDI, greater mixing power and flexibility, enhanced efficiency, and improved ease of use. Pro Tools 7, which supports Mac OS X Tiger, adds new music creation tools such as Instrument Tracks for integration of virtual instruments, non-destructive real-time MIDI processing, and the ability to work with industry-standard REX and ACID files. It is also optimized to boost RTAS plug-in counts by as much as 150 percent on multi-processor computers, according to the company. Upgrades are free to purchases after Sept. 1, 2005 or start at $75.

"Mac OS X is built from the ground up for audio and is used in more professional audio studios than any other platform," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations. "With the release of Pro Tools 7, we're thrilled to see Digidesign take advantage of the innovation in Mac OS X Tiger and Power Mac G5 to deliver exceptional performance for music creation and all types of audio production."

"Pro Tools 7 software is a shining example of why Windows continues to be the most scalable, broadly adopted platform for rich media production," said Kevin Unangst, Director, Windows Digital Media at Microsoft Corp. "The optimizations and performance improvements of version 7 are enabling Pro Tools users on Windows to work even faster and with more creative power than ever before. Combine these improvements with the ability to import and export using the unmatched quality and performance of Windows Media Audio and its clear that Digidesign is delivering everything musicians need for outstanding audio creation and production."

Customers can choose to purchase a Standard Upgrade ($175) or the special Pro Tools 7 Software Upgrade PLUS option ($245) for Pro Tools HD 7. The same upgrades are available for Pro Tools LE 7 systems for $75 and $100, respectively. Available online or through a local Authorized Digidesign Reseller until December 20, 2005, Upgrade PLUS options offer the Pro Tools 7 software upgrade plus a choice of two powerful plug-ins, all at an outstanding value.

Anyone who purchased a new Pro Tools|HD or Pro Tools LE system, or an upgrade to Pro Tools TDM 6.9.x or Pro Tools LE 6.9x software, from an authorized dealer on or after September 1, 2005, is automatically eligible for a free upgrade to the corresponding version of Pro Tools 7 software (i.e., Pro Tools HD 7 software or Pro Tools LE 7 software). Pro Tools M-Powered, a free update, will be available after customers are contacted with upgrade information, according to the company.
