Read-Write Gold for Mac

Texthelp Systems is now shipping a Mac-compatible version of its line of software for schools: for students with low proficiency in reading and English. Read&Write is a literacy productivity tool that helps struggling students in grades 3 and up access curriculum content on a computer and complete reading, writing and research assignments independently. The program serves as a personal coach, leveling the playing field for all students with reading problems including English Language Learners and students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia. Read&Write offers an easy-to-use companion window that floats on top of most applications to offer immediate access to the 13 literacy support features. It is available for Mac OS X 10.2 or later for $645 or $4,500 (network license).

Read&Write Gold for Mac includes a number of completely new features, including: the ability to scan any paper-based document or saved image into HTML or PDF files using Iris Scan Version 9.1, then have it read aloud; new reading support and improved access to digital curriculum content, websites and on-line textbooks; and an improved dictionary and word prediction features.

Other features including text-to-speech functions, spell checker, homophone support, word prediction, web highlighting in Apple's Safari browser, a built-in dictionary, scan-to-document features (including PDF/RTF/HTML creation), fact finder, on-screen highlighting, easy text transfer and PDFaloud2 for additional support with PDF documents.

Read&Write Gold for Mac includes an additional application, Safari Reader, which provides speech feedback with dual highlighting within Safari's Web browser. This new feature allows students to experience dual-color highlighting with audible feedback in HTML documents and is helpful for students when accessing information online and also aids their concentration and comprehension.

The built-in dictionary Includes 180,000 words with alternative suggestions in the dictionary, thus developing the student's creative writing skills. Each word
in the dictionary has a description and sample sentence, all of which can be
spoken.

The company has also added Iris Scan Version 9.1, which allows
students to scan documents into Read&Write itself or to PDF, RTF or HTML
format. Once scanned, the text may be read aloud or edited. A Speech Maker function allows students to convert text to MP3, WAV, or AIFF sound
files.
