Mac marketshare grows

Apple's Mac shipments in US in the third calendar quarter , more than quadruple the industry growth rate. During the same period, Apple also saw its U.S. market share increase by more than 30 percent from 3.3 percent to 4.3 percent according to IDC. CNET reports that during the September, that overall PC sales grew by 17.1 percent, while sales in the US grew by 11 percent--driven by the popularity of notebooks, low-cost systems and international sales. The same numbers show that Apple has a 2.3 percent market share worldwide, while Gateway saw its U.S. market share rise from 5.2 percent to 6.4 percent through a growth rate of 35.2 percent. OtherIDC numbers show that Hewlett-Packard closed the gap betwen it and the No. 1 PC vendor, Dell, by showing a slightly faster growth rate than Dell, while No. 4 PC vendor Acer grew the "torrid pace" of 53.7 percent (worldwide), boosting its global market share from 3.6 percent to 4.7 percent.

    numbers don't make sense

Last quarter, Apple's US share had risen from 3.7% in the first quarter to 4.5%. so Apple's sales went up by 44% vs 13 or so % for the indusrty as a whole and their markershare went from 3.3% to 4.3%?

This makes no sense. Somewhere the numbers are wrong.

I think the rise they're talking about is year-on-year. If you're talking quarter-to-quarter, yeah, it's actually gone down 0.2 of a percentage point.
