Apple schedules special event for Oct. 19

updated 07:50 pm EDT, Fri October 14, 2005

Apple event on Oct 19

Apple is scheduled to hold a , also being held in New York City, the event is Apple's third event in two months, following the high-profile introductions of the iPod nano, iTunes 5, video iPod, new iMac G5, and iTunes 6. MacNN sources have confirmed that the event will be used to introduce the last PowerPC-based PowerBook G4 lineup with new high resolution displays and other improvements. Other reports also suggest the event will bring a photography-related announcement as well as updated Power Mac G5 systems using IBM's dual-core PowerPC chips, although the (unconfirmed) details are scarce.

    Where the heck is 10.4.3?

I'm getting tired of that damn spinning beachball.

    10.4.3

It will be released any second now. Appleinsider and the other sites say so. Of course, it seems like they've been saying this for the past 3 months, but that's not the point.

Oh, and its not going to get rid of the spinning beach ball. Its unrealistic to think Apple will spend time to do anything like fix all the problems with their OS. They've got new useless features to be passing along.

That ball will be with us for life.

    10.4.3 & New Iron

From what I've been reading in the rumor mills, 10.4.3 has code added specifically for new hardware. I'd guess that it's released along with new PowerBooks, PowerMacs and XServes. Supposedly there will be a massive number of bug fixes and performance improvements included w/10.4.3.

I'll just be happy to get a new PowerBook!

    Busy !

Wow, Apple certainly are busy. Hopefully this will be to announce the merger with ElGato adn the release of a Mac Mini with multiple digital tuner cards and FrontRow for TV. Or just another release of iTunes to support hires photos. They're not going to hold a press release for a point.point release (or are they... stock always seems to go up after a release !)

I haven't seen anywhere the time for when the scheduled event is supposed to begin.

    Oooh and I want...

...the next Powerbook to include a rubber chicken, a caesium time standard and a trampoline!!! When will people grok that a computer is still a computer and a Mac is a Mac and if you want it do EVERYTHING, it will become the Micro$oft Word of hardware, feature rich where nothing works properly!!!!!

    PowerBooks overdue

Apparently, the PowerBook update that will be announced on October 19 will not be anything remotely like we have been expecting for months, while watching the iBook catch up in almost every respect, essentially erasing the boundary between consumer and professional laptop. Apple has to release a new PowerBook soon, as it hasn't done anything for the PB since the beginning of the year, but no advanced features are ready, because all engineeering HR has been shifted to Intel development. Oh, well, I'll still make the purchase, because Intel could be problem-ridden in its first round of releases.

    RE: Beachball

Seriously, what a bunch of whiners. If a little beachball is such a huge problem for you guys, then why don't you switch to Windows? I'm sure they've got it so much better than us :
