Studio Network Solutions today expanded its product line to include the X-4, its small SAN (storage area network) device created for multi-room audio studios that rely on Pro Tools. The X-4 includes 1.6TB of SATA storage capacity in a 1U rack-mount enclosure, and contains a single RAID controller with two client licenses for SAN software. Direct connections can be made to the X-4 over Gigabit Ethernet to share RAID-protected storage the same way connections are made to higher-priced Fibre Channel SANs. Designed to be "stackable", the X-4 is based on the iSCSI protocol as with all other models in the globalSAN family. The globalSAN X-4 is available for $7000.
