Apple planning fourth retail store in Portland area?
Apple may be preparing to open a fourth retail store in the Portland area, according to a report by The Oregonian. Although Apple declined to comment, the report says that a painted sign points to yet another store store in the "Mac town" of Portland, Oregon. "The renderings show a new building at Northwest 23rd Avenue and Glisan Street, a modern design of glass, concrete and steel. It's run-of-the-mill -- except for one feature: the 4-foot outline of an apple with a bite missing, much like the logo of a certain computer company famous for its iPod. After seeing the drawings and attending a meeting about them, city planners and neighbors say Apple Computer Inc. appears to want to build a 5,000-square-foot retail store near Pizzicato Gourmet Pizza and Kitchen Kaboodle." Apple debuted its third retail store in the Portland area earlier this year at Bridgeport Village in Tigard.

1. Washington Square 2. Bridgeport Villaige 3. Pioneer Place
Which in my opinion was reverse practicality - should have started with Pioneer Place, and not even bothered with the Washington Square.
My complaints - and I am really glad they opened stores, don't get me wrong - is thet the Bridgeport and Washington Square are too close to eachother, and if they DO open one on NW 23 (while a cool location) it is WAY too close to the downtown Pioneer Place.
What, is Apple becoming Starbucks?
I mean come on, there is not ONE Apple store in New Mexico (and almost zero independant Apple based retailers) but Portland gets 4 spaced too close together, a town which we have many good independant Apple retailers (like the Mac store, MacForce, PowerMacPac, PowerMAX, and a couple others).
They should close the Washington Square location, and open one farther on the west side - like Streets of Tanasbourne - or somewhere like that.
And start focusing on the places where people CAN'T GET APPLE, like New Mexico, and if the other posters are right - Maine...
What about Eugene, Oregon? Why 4 in portland and none in Eugene?
Hmmmm....
More hype and the press falls for it.
