BBC hints to video iPod release on the 12th
Several reports this week suggested Apple may be planning to unveil a video-capable iPod at its special event on October 12th. Yesterday, BBC reportedly stated in a broadcast that “Apple is set to unveil a new video iPod at the BBC Television Centre in London on October the 12th." On Tuesday, Apple sent out invitations to the October 12th event. The invitation shows closed theater curtains with the words "One more thing…" written on top. The event, planned for Wednesday, October 12, is one day after the company announces its financial results for its fourth fiscal quarter. Apple CEO Steve Jobs is known for using the "One more thing…" gimmick to make surprise announcements towards the end of a keynote or special event.

make that mobile!!!
-the same "playback" hardware interface as iPod photo.
-Fairplay for DVD ripping: encodes DVD's into Quicktime & Fairplay encoded files which will render sharing virturally impossible.
-Will allow limited burning.
-iTunes will begin offering full length programming.
- And finally, Apple will become the first internet television provider. How? Look at Tivo and the use of digital video recorders. To be able to download a show that would normally be available via cable and watch it anytime you want. This business model will compete directly with "on-demand" television currently offered by Cable providers, and soon-to-be telco providers new fiber-optic broadband service.
Apple will beat them all with the iTunes store that will now start selling video.
How technically. Anyone know Akamai? The same distributed server system will be utilized to conserve bandwidth. And besides, much of this back-end stuff will be located at the growing network of Apple Stores.
You think I'm kidding? Keep watching.
