updated 11:55 am EDT, Thu September 29, 2005

Cinema 4D R9.5 released

Maxon today released , its 3D package for high end modeling, animation and rendering that now offers a full screen mode. The new content browser displays scenes, models, shaders and various presets for rendering, thinking particles, SKY, and more in clearly arranged directory listings. SKY is a powerful tool for the creation of any atmospheric effect as a 2D background or as 3D volumetric clouds, offering 50 atmospherics presets. The reworked lighting system offers improved operation, many new settings, and rendering speeds for area lights and area shadows of up to four times faster than before. Cinema 4D R9.5 requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later and is available for $700.

Rendered bitmaps can now be output in 32-bit / channel color depth as HDRI or OpenEXR files, and multipass rendering now also supports the compositing application Shake. Area lights can now be assigned any shape - cubic, circular or even that of an object or spline. Ambient Occlusion renders realistic shadows without active radiosity and saves rendertime, the shadows are calculated based on environment shadows and can be done either for individual objects or for the entire scene. The reworked Baker offers new ways to create maps such as UV maps, normal maps and Ambient Occlusion. The normal mapping technology (used in particular by game developers) creates normal maps from objects with applied SubPolyDisplacement.
