G5 Drive Bracket price drops

The G5 Drive Bracket team has lowered the price of its drive bracket product from $75 to $60, due to increased sales after its one-year anniversary which resulted in better bulk rates. The G5 Drive Bracket adds up to three full-size (3" x 3 1/2" x 1") internal drives to Apple's Power Mac G5 computers, mounting the devices in front of the two fans in cooling zone three. Brackets are made of 1/4-inch polycarbonate, the same material used to make bullet proof windows. The kit includes the bracket, screws to mount three hard disks, an Allen wrench, and a documentation CD providing details on installation. The G5 Drive Bracket works with all past and current Power Mac G5 systems, and comes with a 30-day warranty for manufacturing defects.

The company's website cites "no noticeable advantage" of other more expensive versions of the bracket. They neglect to mention that other suppliers provide power and sata cables in "their" kits, complete and ready to go. Nothing is more painful than having to source parts from multiple sources for an upgrade.

Don't know about the durability of polycarbonate over aluminium other than the fact that you have to remove the drives and bracket to access the RAM slots. If you have to do that more than a few times, say if you have an infuriating "bad RAM" issue, I'm sure that issues of durability may become more relevant. Let's face it, nothing matters when everything's going right, things only start to matter when things go wrong. Example: you could drive around for years without a jack but god help you if you don't have one when you get a puncture!

Okay, before I get flamed into oblivion, I will recant the "neglect to mention" part of the above post. Apologies! In fact, the company make a virtue of the fact that it is "just" the bracket and that they don't "force you" to buy anything that you might not need. They don't, however, provide the option to buy the other necessary parts if you "do" need them. So you have to go elsewhere and pay double shipping etc. I guess they're selling half a hole!

Do they mean aesthetics?

In the PR section you will find:

Ascetics: The G5 Drive Bracket Team understands the Apple buying public very well; they like to have items that not only work but also look good.

I think they mean aesthetics (or esthetics)?

Check out wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ascetic for the definition of "ascetics", it gives the whole thing a new meaning!
