StuffIt Standard 10 improves JPEG compression

Allume on Wednesday released , the latest version of its data compression, access, and management tool for Mac OS X. This release includes new JPEG compression technology, allowing users to compress JPEG images and photos up to 30 percent without loss in image quality. Also included is a new restore mode that will allow users to automatically expand the contents of an archive, created with Archive Assistant, back to the location on the hard drive from which they were backed up. The addition of a new compression algorithm allows StuffIt to compress up to 20 percent faster than prior versions. Interface and usability improvements have also been introduced. The software is $50 for new users or $15 to upgrade.
