How about that. The CEO of a company who produces flash memory cards says flash memory is the wave of the future.
Flash memory is also on borrowed time as it will eventually be replaced by holographic storage.
Think about it, once the price comes down what kind of storage do you think will be in most laptops? Given it's lower power requirements and fact that it will not break when dropped its the perfect solution. This will allow the laptops to become smaller and lighter, just look at the iPod nano. From now on it's not about MHz it all about the size and battery life. It might not happen in 5 years, but 10 years from now HDs will have gone the way of the floppy disk.
Imagine a machine with the CPU horsepower of a dual
2.7 G5 tower with the portability of a handheld
device or laptop with the battery life of a
business week and the weight of a laptop.
It could happen.
Solid state mass storage has been the future for about 25 years now. I expect it will continue to be the future for the next 25 years.

Borrowed?
I wouldn't exactly call hard drives time 'borrowed'. Whats 160GB of solid state memory go for these days, something like $8000?
