iPod a "moving target" for competitors

iPod moving target

Apple is continuing to make the iPod a moving target for competitors, according to Needham & Company. So far, no competitor has matched the iPod's "simplicity and elegance," writes Charles Wolf. "Yesterday, Apple raised the bar yet again with the introduction of the iPod nano [...] In our opinion, the nano should sell as well if not better than the mini, appealing to new users as well as owners of higher capacity Pods." Apple is also continuing its strategy of "locking in iPod owners with accessories." The company announced that there are now over 1,000 accessories for the iPod. Also, Apple announced that 15 automobile manufacturers now support the Pod. Around 30 percent of new automobiles sold in the U.S. in 2006 will feature built-in iPod support.

remind us all again how iPod sales have plateaued and the market is saturated and no one can maintain 80% market share?

    these analysts...

just don't understand Apple products. They should just stick to the WinTel world where "market share" is the top spec for all success.

    misreadng this..

I think you guys are misreading this stattement. When they say Apple is a "moving target", thet means that they are not an easy target. But rather a very difficult one to hit. Meaning they make awesome products that other companies are having a hard time competing with.

Any company with 80% market share of anything is a target and always will be.

    oh i get it alright

I understand fully well what 'moving target' means, duh!

And anal-ysts will keep saying, "Yeah, they've done well so far, but how can they keep up this momentum?"

Apple just lapped their competitors AGAIN and still the anal-ysts don't 'get it'.

    That's why they're ...

called analysts... traditionally, companies with that high of a market share cannot sustain it, so what would you expect them to say?

"Well... because it's Apple, there's no doubt in our mind that they'll dominate like Microsoft forever... hahahahaha... I'm so biased."

You toolbags can love Mac without sounding like idiots. I wouldn't even think of using anything but Mac, but you don't hear me blasting every word that's anti-mac ...

Noooo! Anything that is anti-mac is heresy and must be blasted! Anybody who suggests otherwise is a heretic and must be blasted!

    A moving target ...

...for consumers, too! Why isn't the nano in the Apple stores yet?! I tried the 3 stores that are within an hours of my home, and none of them have the nano in stock, nor do they know when they are getting it in! One of the stores suggested I order it online, but there is no shipping option faster than 3 day. Too bad Apple's distribution network isn't as good as their design team.

    yo natural1 -

Be happy if you can get a NEW Apple product inside of two weeks from announcement. They ARE getting better. Check the stores again next week. early. before the first wave is gone. heheheh he said toolbag. As long as Apple can keep the iPod a "moving target" they have a chance of maintaining dominance for a while. My 1500+ shares WILL buy me a small house soon.
