Logitech mouse debuts

today announced the Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse. The company says the mouse improves the cordless experience with power-saving features that support battery life of up to eight months and a reduces clutter via its wireless "plug and play" mini-receiver. The Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse features Logitech's new smart power management system, which includes an indicator light that glows green when the mouse is turned on and the battery life is good. The light blinks red when 1-2 weeks of battery life remain. The second component of the smart power management system is an on/off button on the base of the mouse, which can help further extend battery life. The new mouse is expected to be available soon for $40 (and will ship in Europe later this month).

Logitech also says the mouse also uses invisible optical tracking technology that conserves power while tracking better than previous optical mice with a red light-emitting diode (LED).

"Logitech's Smart Power Management features are an essential component in how we've made the cordless experience even easier and better than before," said Ashish Arora, Logitech vice president of product marketing for retail pointing devices. "The LX7 mouse provides a battery life of up to eight months -- but battery life can be extended much farther, depending upon how people use it, thanks to the reminders provided by the indicator light, the on/off switch and the power-saving standby mode."

The Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse uses Logitech's proprietary 27MHz technology and a mini-receiver. The mouse and receiver are paired during manufacturing so that when they are plugged in, they work immediately -- making it easy to use with either a notebook or desktop computer. "No setup or connection process is necessary. Also, the LX7 doesn't have a bulky receiver, which was previously common with cordless mice, further decreasing desktop clutter."

Designed to fit comfortably in the right or left hand, the ambidextrous Logitech LX7 Cordless Optical Mouse is sculpted on both sides of the mouse, giving it an hourglass shape. The mouse features a soft-touch, rubberized grip and is available in three different stylish color combinations: glossy metallic blue/piano black, quartz gray/piano black, or ice blue/steel gray.

The mouse uses two AA batteries, but can operate on only one for those who prefer the mouse to be more lightweight. The mouse includes Logitech's Tilt Wheel Plus Zoom scroll wheel, which can scroll left, right, up and down, and zoom in and out of digital photos, Web pages and open documents. It also features integrated forward and back buttons.
