Apple to offer flash-based iPod minis?

updated 10:45 am EDT, Mon September 5, 2005

Flash iPod minis

Apple's iPod Mini is expected to gain a color screen and move to Flash memory with its next revision, according to . The devices will reportedly offer 4GB, 6GB and 8GB of storage at varying price points. The new models are expected at $200, $250 and $300, respectively. With no hard disk, battery life is likely to be significantly better than today's models. Apple will also reportedly expand its Shuffle line to include a 2GB model. The company will also continue to sell the 512MB and 1GB units. Pricing will fall to $70, $100, and $130-$150, respectively. The report comes just days after iPod hard drive supplier Hitachi announced smaller sized, higher capacity 1in hard drives.

I would assume a "smaller 1 inch drive" means a thinner drive. i've seen 3.5" drives that are different thicknesses, but they are all still 3.5" drives

    Get your citations right!

    C'mon MacNN!

The Register article clearly cites Think Secret and their story is essentially the same.

Are you afraid to give credit to Think Secret because they are on Apple's black list?

OTOH, I guess we should be greatful that you didn't link the whole story to your IpodNN site, like you usually do. :-P

    Baaa Baaa!

OK Sheepsters - call them what you may but they broke the story first...

And you enjoy the info to boot.

    Hope it's true

Then I can finally justify buying an iPod. With no fragile HD and a nice color display for album art, the final pieces of the puzzle would fall into place for me.

What do you know about citations? They got the info from The Register who got it from Think Secret. Since they didn't actually read Think Secret, they are correct in citing The Register. The absolute correct way would be to site both, but citing The Register is more correct than citing Think secret. It's like writing a book report and citing something you never read.

And does the register cite Think Secret's sources? And what are Think Secret's sources. Seems everyone's just citing (its cite or citing, not site or siting) an uncited source. Oooh.

Oh, and when you pass on news, do you always cite it back to everyone who's passed it on? "Well, my Aunt Margaret says her hair dresser told her that Juanita said that Phyllis heard from Jake, the guy she's having the affair with, that he heard from Bob who pumps gas at Steve Job's local gas station that he heard Jobs say that Avie said that the new ipod minis would have flash based drives"?
