    Scary

Google will be collecting every bit of info about us, neatly organized. If you think Google is helpful, watch the Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man"

    who needs it…

if you have iChat and .mac or a free AIM account what would be the point of having/using it in the first place?

    don't like having 2 list

i don't like that the jabber (google) and aim lists are in two windows. i wish they were merged and people in both (based on address book) show up as one entry.

    To Serve Man...

    One of the all-time best!

As for this service - I'm not sure it's needed either?

    Here's why

You might as well ask why Apple created an iPod when there were so many MP3 players out there. Google rarely invents anything.

They didn't invent search, but they got better results, and they removed all the animated flashing ads from their search page.

They didnt invent free web mail, but they are the reason why Yahoo and probably Apple increased their email storage space.

They didnt invent online maps and directions, but I have to say I prefer their maps to MapQuest or anyone else.

If you use iChat then Google Talk over AIM doesnt seem to make much sense. The mistake is believing that everyone uses or likes iChat. Personally I know a lot of people who've already started using Google Talk, and I look forward to a Mac client with a clean interface being produced.

    Two Services, One List

The "Fire" client lets you have many IM services connected with your contacts in one window from all of them.

What's really lacking is a free cross-platform audio chatting program that handles video too.
